What is a Birth Doula?

A birth doula is a non-clinical emotional and physical comfort support person, trained in birth. My job is to empower you with the information you need to make your own decisions about your birth plan, remain with you throughout labour to provide emotional and physical comfort. My goal is to ensure you feel supported for the type of birth you want.

Birth doulas attend all types of birth- hospital, home, vaginal, cesarean, VBAC etc. It is all about you, and your needs. After baby has arrived, they provide some postpartum support to help you bond immediately, and get confidently settled.

What I do ..

I am here to help you find the resources you need, and uncover options you may not know existed. If you have a partner involved, I support and work with your partner to help them support you. I make sure you have the info you need to make your own decisions as you feel comfortable. I explain information that is new or seems confusing, to make sure you feel empowered to make the decisions that are best for you!

During labour, I am there to coach you and your partner with emotional support, breathing techniques, relaxation, massage, movement and position options, and almost any way needed to get you as comfortable as possible and help your baby down smoothly. I am here to celebrate with you!

What I do not do..

I don't perform clinical tasks. I will not check your cervix or prescribe medication. I don't replace your partner, I don't speak for you, and I don't make decisions for you. I don't share your personal information or birth experience with anyone.
